What are the Photofair Stores?
It's a cooperative buying group - our Members pool their
purchasing power to negotiate special deals with suppliers - but that's only part of the
story.
It's an educational organization. At our monthly dinner
meetings, a wide variety of informative programs are presented. The best education,
however, has always been Member-to-Member.
It's a social organization. With whom does a photo
specialty retailer have more in common than another photo specialty retailer? We've shared
the same successes and the same sort of problems over the years, we've been meeting each
other over the years, so it's not surprising that most of us count the other Photofair
Members among our closest friends.
In addition to our monthly meetings and our annual trade show, we have
many purely social events. There's an annual dinner dance, a picnic (with a softball
grudge match that's been going on for decades), and even the occasional white-water
rafting trip.
Now with even more store locations, we've been helping photographers for
50 years.

The Founders of Photofair banded together right
after the second World War to pool their buying power. At that time most were small,
"Mom and Pop" stores who might not need three Kodak Retina cameras, but wanted
the lower pricing that came with a 3-piece order.
They also found it was advantageous to be friendly with their competitors,
so they could exchange merchandise as needed - maybe pick up that needed Kalart Focuspot
from the dealer in the next town over.
Over time they found even greater value in the exchange of ideas, as
opposed to products. Industry trends were, and are, a topic of discussion at our monthly
dinner meetings.
Your local Photofair Store is bright and clean and staffed with people who
really know what they're talking about! Throughout Northern New Jersey, you'll find a
locally-owned and operated Photofair Store.
We're a far cry from those giant, faceless chains. Our staff members eat,
drink and sleep photography - and we sometimes even work at it!

How can I join Photofair Stores?
Current Members in good standing may propose an active photo-imaging
specialty retailer for Membership. Our Membership Committee will undertake a preliminary
review before the suggested new applicant is asked to fill out a Membership application.
Who do we want?
Active, knowledgeable retailers, who will bring fresh ideas to our
meetings. We assume and require that our Members will attend our monthly meetings and be
active participants.
Photo-Imaging Specialists, who concentrate on this
particular industry.
Reputable Store Owners, who believe that fair dealing is
the only way of life. To be considered for Membership, a man or woman must be
well-regarded in the industry.
We're located in Northern New Jersey. Since participation is important to
us, it doesn't make sense for people in other areas to join. If you can't attend most of
our meetings, if you can't add to our strength, you shouldn't be a Member - but we'd
certainly like you as a friend!
