Stories:

Kodak Repositions Royal Gold Film Pricing

Kodak Royal Gold film has been one of the few items designed especially for marketing through Photo Specialty Channels. Beginning September 15, 1999 KODAK will provide tools to allow Photo Specialty retailers to market  Royal Gold films at a new, more aggressive price. And they’ll make it easier to claim the consumer’s voucher, too.

As Kodak's Alan Niederman put it, "We’d like you to have the option of selling Kodak’s advertised films, KODAK GOLD and MAX, or KODAK’s premium films, KODAK ROYAL GOLD, at the same promoted package price. By moving your customer to KODAK ROYAL GOLD Film, you’ll generate greater margin.

"Beginning in late October, Kodak will ship the redesigned KODAK ROYAL GOLD Film 3-pack. All you’ll need to send in is the completed form printed on the peel-off tab. It’s easy – peel off, fill out, mail in. Nothing else to slow you down. The new package will carry the same catalog number as the old package. Shipments will occur on a stock turnover basis, which we expect to begin in the second half of October.

"If you are participating in the KODAK MEDALIST Rewards program, you’ll find the “For Store Use Only” stickers on the bottom of the box."

Golitzinsky Will Lead Kodak Student, Emerging Filmmaker Programs

ROCHESTER, N.Y., September 9--Michel Golitzinsky has been appointed director of Kodak's worldwide programs designed to support film schools and students, as well as young filmmakers during the early stages of their careers.

"Kodak's Worldwide Student and Emerging Filmmakers Programs include many ambitious initiatives designed to nurture filmmakers at a time when they need our help the most," says Golitzinsky. "We consider these programs an investment in the future. The feedback and input from talented young filmmakers helps us in our efforts in many ways."

Golitzinsky succeeds James MacKay, who directed both programs until he retired from Kodak in 1998 after a career that spanned 36 years.

Kodak's Worldwide Student Program was launched in 1991 and has been designed with input from committees in different parts of the world consisting of leading film school educators. Today, the program includes a number of initiatives, including scholarships, educator allowances, product grants, training materials and other educational and international support. The Kodak Worldwide Emerging Filmmakers Program, which was launched last year, includes an alliance with the Directors Guild of America to promote diversity; a showcase on Public Broadcasting System stations; educational seminars and material as well as supporting a conference to introduce new filmmakers to potential financiers. There are also many local, regional and country initiatives.

Golitzinsky observes that the Worldwide Student Program has evolved into a powerful support tool over its first eight years. He says that the company is committed to providing the same level of support to emerging filmmakers.

"The better we understand the needs of young filmmakers, the more beneficial support we can provide," he says. "Our goal is to work toward developing a strong and continuing dialog with them, so we can help them realize their dreams."

Golitzinsky has participated in the Worldwide Student Program at the grassroots level as a regional manager for the Kodak's Professional Motion Imaging division in Montreal.

"I've been working with local universities, and talking not just with the deans, chairpersons and faculties, but also with the students," he says. "I'm passionate about educators and what they do, and look forward to this challenge."

Golitzinsky was born in France and raised in Quebec, Canada. He attended Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) and joined Kodak in Canada 24 years ago. He has broad experience in consumer and professional photography and electronic imaging within various divisions of Kodak. Golitzinsky is headquartered in Montreal.

"While I have been working in Canada, I have maintained my European roots," he says, "and that's important. These are worldwide programs, and we intend to live up to that promise. This is a global industry because film speaks a universal language. My mandate is to make certain that young filmmakers from around the world get the support they deserve."

New Interactive OSHA CD From Kodak Delivers Unique Hands-On Training to Photo Lab Staff

ROCHESTER, N.Y., September 1--A new computer-based training program from Eastman Kodak Company provides the first interactive, industry-specific OSHA training for photoprocessing labs.

OSHA Regulations for the Photoprocessing Lab is published on compact disc by Kodak Environmental Services (KES). The interactive program is designed to assist photo labs in meeting Occupational Safety and Health Association guidelines for safe workplace practices. Unlike many available OSHA training programs, the disc provides information specific to photo lab operations, such as safe handling of photoprocessing chemistries.

"We've designed the program to help laboratories in two ways," noted Jeffrey E. Moore, environmental marketing and technical coordinator for Kodak Professional. "First, it delivers invaluable information to laboratory employees on how to stay safe on their jobs. Second, it provides a mechanism for laboratory managers to comply with key components of the OSHA rules."

The program's interactive interface, Moore added, ensures users will be engaged and interested as they complete the training.

Topics covered by the program include:

  • OSHA Requirements;
  • Hazard Communications;
  • Chemical Hazards;
  • Formaldehyde Handling;
  • Personal Protective Equipment; and
  • Lockout/Tagout.

Self-tests following each of the CD's modules helps users evaluate whether they have understood the program's content. A mastery test at the end of the program lets laboratory training or human resources managers keep records of employees' completion of the training course. This record-keeping is required under OSHA workplace safety regulations.

After viewing the new training disc, Paul Fuller, president, Full Color, Inc., Dallas, Texas, said "For in-depth health and safety training in the processing lab, this is better than anything else I've seen. It has a great interface and includes a tutorial which explains clearly how to run it."

Fuller noted that the disc provides both basic safety information suitable for his lab's clerks, sales staff and executives, as well as in-depth information for people who handle chemistry or electrical equipment. "This program will meet my lab's needs for OSHA training," Fuller stated.

System requirements for running the disc include Windows 95, 98 or Windows NT operating system, at least 16 Mbytes RAM, 54 Mbytes harddrive space, a 4X or higher CD-ROM drive, a 256-color video card and a sound card compatible with Windows systems.

For a copy of the OSHA training disc, contact your Kodak representative, call Kodak Professional at 1-800-242-2424, or contact Kodak Professional on-line at: http://www.kodak.com/go/professional.
