Ideas for the photo/imaging industry January 17, 2008

  Hello -

We're halfway through the first month of the year!

Have you run any promotions since the holidays, or have you been content to coast downhill?

Idea #1 - Are your best customers in "the memory business?"

Paul Rentz - Rush Hour Photo and Wireless - Corvallis, OR - www.rushhourphoto.com

As Bill knows, I found one local travel agency that truly gets the importance of 'images' They see themselves in the 'memories' business, not travel business. And when I showed them HP's photobooks they lit up with ideas! Well, that relationship is moving forward- Teel's Travel here in Corvallis has asked me to join a group that will (hopefully) be going to Germany next year, as a 'memories' consultant. Not my idea, theirs! But maybe a 'bug' you could put in someone's ear once you've established your relationship.

Part two- this has been enhanced by doing classes for years now. Not only this opportunity but at almost the same time I was contacted by Oregon State University to teach photography to gifted students that attend special classes at OSU- grade school students! What an opportunity to reach another generation

See how Teel Travel exploits Paul's expertise in this VIDEO.

Idea #2 - Reach out to instructors and reel them in

Sid Davidowitz - Moto Photo/The Picture Spa - Paramus, NJ - www.thepicturespa.com

Bill, Chris:

Months ago I reached out to the various digital 101 instructors that teach continuing education programs at local high schools. At first I was looking for someone to actually run classes in The Picture Spa. But when meeting each of them, I realized that these people can be great evangelists for my company.

Most of them make reference to photo places and are asked where to get good quality work done. One instructor called me explaining that his classes are 4 sessions and wanted to know if I would be interested in hosting a fifth optional class at The Picture Spa. He further explained that when surveying the students about what they wanted out of the class, the majority of them noted that they "want to know what do with all the photos that they have been taking". I think I can help them with that!

So, reach out to them, have them bring some images to your meeting (at your lab), give them a tour of what can be done and have him (her) leave with some cool products (books, calendars, etc.) made from their files.

Happy Holidays!

Sid

Idea 3 - A gem from DIMA

Chad Munce - PMA - www.pmai.org

SPEAKING OF PHOTO BOOK SOFTWARE.....

DIMA is going to feature a photo book showcase on the PMA 08 trade show floor (Booth K133 on the second level). We have over 50 entries in the four different categories, including 12 different software solutions.

So make a point to stop by and give them a test drive.

See you in Vegas!

Chad

Idea 4 - PMA photo interaction with Flickr

Glynn Lavender - Camera Action Camera House - Melbourne, Australia - www.cameraaction.com.au

The lovely folk at PMA have started a dedicated Flickr group for everyone attending PMA 08.

They'd love to see your snaps in the group and see your views of the conference, the convention, the parties and the town itself.

Our industry is all about catching moments in time and sharing them so please come and join the us and share your PMA moments.

Here's the link to the group.

See you all in Vegas.

Do you own an HP Photo Studio system?

If you do, you should have received a special invitation in the last seven days.

It's confidential, but something independent owners of HP Studios should know about .

So if you're feeling left out, drop us a note
