Ideas for the photo/imaging industry |

Hello Chris,
Distant Early Warning Alert:
Although March is a long time from now, it's not
too early to start thinking about PMA 2009. In fact,
you may want to start stockpiling gasoline now, or
even start checking airline ticket prices.
More than ever it's important that your plans
include the full event, not just the 3 days that are
designated "PMA".
Next year, all the education sessions
will be part of the DIMA track, which begins
Sunday March 1st and runs through the 4th.
As one industry wag puts it,
"DIMA - it's what's left of photography when you
leave out all the obsolete stuff."
To put it bluntly - if you don't get to Las Vegas
until Tuesday, you're going to miss most of the best
stuff! |

Idea #1 - The CPC program needs updated
content
Stephanie A. Fisher - Education
Director - PMA -
www.pmai.org
The CPC Committee and PMA® are in the
process of updating the CPC question and
answer pool to keep the exam current
with the latest imaging and customer
service questions.
We hope you will consider submitting
one or two questions to be added to the
pool of questions. Please send your
suggestions to sfisher at pmai.org.
(yes, you will have to turn that into a
valid email address)
Thank you for your input.
editors note:
The Certified Photographic Consultant
program is the best training program
around for counter staff in the photo
industry, but technological change is
happening so fast that we really need
those updates!
So we'll offer PRIZES for the best
questions (and answers) submitted.
No, the prizes will not be 60" plasma
TV but it will be something nice and
oriented to our industry.
The biggest prize will be the boost
in performance among your staff members
who study for their CPC designation.
Bedford Camera and Video found that
translated directly to a very
nice boost in sales when 9 associates
made the grade, as reported in
MMIE #250 and in-depth interviews on
DIMAcast #99 |

Idea #2 - The KISS approach to email
marketing
Linda Wright - Specialty Color
Services Custom Photo Lab - Santa
Barbara, CA, USA -
www.colorservices.com
Hi Bill,
You asked for it, so here is my idea!
For the past few years, we have been
using a "less is more" format with our
email marketing campaign. No fancy
newsletter-just a simple text message.
Most emails are only several sentences
long. We feel that we have achieved high
readership due to our style. Our
customers have learned that they won't
need to invest a lot of time when they
choose whether or not to open our
messages.
They will get a quick tidbit of
information, notice of a new product,
store special, etc. and that is it.
We have received positive feedback
and very few who unsubscribe.
Linda Wright
editor's note:
Linda is also the author of an
interesting book on marketing via the
bathroom,
The subtitle is "Skip Big Ticket
Advertising and Build Business with
Better Bathrooms"
If that isn't guerrilla marketing, I
don't know what is! |

Idea 3 - A downtown store gets some
gracious press
Jerry Harmen - Madison Photo Plus -
Madison, NJ, USA - www.madisonphoto.com
Madison/Chatham This Week let us say
great things bout our store in an
editorial style, such as
"The easiest part?
That's simple -- mixing business with
pleasure.
"I believe that if you don't like
doing what you're doing, pack up and do
something else. Life is too short to
spend not enjoying what you do, as well
as the people around you, on a daily
basis. No one prefers to deal with
unhappy people."

the rest of the story
Editor's note: Check
out what a superb job Jerry did of
spinning the questions to his way of
thinking - the reporter asked the
questions and Jerry was able to tell his
story . . . who wouldn't want to shop
with him after reading what a nice guy
he is. . |
