Idea # 2 - When the "professional" gives them only a CD
Lori Rupp - Kohne Camera & Photo - Perrysburg OH, USA - http:/www.kohnes.com
I was just re-reading the Sept 20, 2007 issue - MMIE #222, Idea #2 and thought I would add a little extra that we do to secure that "digital weekend warrior's" business.
Chuck talked about putting packages together for them (weekend shooters) and a few other ideas. Here's a bit of what Chuck said:
Chuck Klingensmith - The Photo Place - Youngstown, Ohio, USA We have found some success marketing to the customers of what I call the "new breed" of pro photographer. Characteristics of this "new breed" include:
1. Owns a SLR Digital 2. Wants to be a pro, but usually has limited experience shooting for hire. 3. Is willing to shoot a wedding or portrait for a reasonable fee without expectations for album or finished print sales.
So maybe they will shoot a wedding for $500 and give the customer a disk of the files, or perhaps also a set of proofs.
They are happy making $50-60/hr and their customer saved $3000 on their wedding photos.
We print a card that I have attached here that looks like a gift card from the photographer. In fact, it states "A Gift from "photographer's name or logo" (the sample here doesn't show the photographer's name but you should if you do this) for the bride and groom or senior. The gift is a free 8 x 10 from Kohne's and 10% off their entire first order. This ensures the photographers prints won't be printed by inexperience BB stores and that their prints will look good. Also the customer gets a "feel good" about the photographer for the gift.
Hope this takes that idea one step further!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Editor's note: Lori's response to the Sept. MMIE and her wish for a Happy New Year were timely when she sent, we just didn't print it right away!
