Idea #1 – Saying “Thanks” can keep customers coming back

Joe Zielinski, Zeff Photo, Belmont, MA  www.zeffphoto.com

Although I'm in mail order and not the lab I thought some of you might benefit from this idea. With each first time phone order that is shipped out, the sales person includes a personally hand written Zeff Thank You card and a business card. We have found that the personal touch to customer takes away the idea of dealing with a non personal big corp., which we are not.

Happy selling,

Joe Zielinski

Idea #2 – We tried these and got frustrated.  Any ideas?

Carl Mink, Millburn Camera, Millburn , NJ - DATJAMS@aol.com

Other ideas that didn't work here but might work for you:

>>> Mailing to jewelry stores prior to Valentine’s Day advertising that we reduce photos for their customer's insertion into lockets, etc. Mailed to about 70 stores, no response.

>>> When a customer's repaired camera is stored for pick-up when completed, we remove the repair tag and write the pertinent info, i.e. customer name, work performed, etc., on the rear of one of our processing coupons instead.

Idea #3 – Fun at Work . . . While The Boss Is Away . . .

Jayne Schumacher - JA-FA Photo, Inc. - Effingham, IL - schubiz@consolidated.net

Hi Bill ... Just wanted to let you know that your seminar was great. We came back with some ideas for our store. We have purchased pink flamingo shirts for the last Tuesday of the month. (We give 2nd set free).

Also after 5 years of business I'm taking a day during the week. The girls are ordering shirts for that day and are having "Jayne's Day Off...Ask about the Special" put on them! They can do anything they want on that day (just don't give the store away!)They came up with 4x6 for 3x5 prices.

We are also creating a poster that has the Ten Commandments of JA-FA Photo. i.e.,

     1. Thou shall not patronize another mini-lab.

      2. Thou shall enjoy the prints made here. etc.

Something to have fun with! Anyway you gave us an inspiration and we're running with it! Thanks again and I hope to hear another of your seminars in the near future.

Idea #4 – Buy One Get One Free Works To Drive Increased Business

Jim Schwarzbach, Jim’s Photo Lab, El Paso , Texas www.jimsphotolab.com

We just ran our most successful ever enlargement promotion last September. Buy one enlargement; get one free - same neg, same size. There were 20+ orders for over $300. One gentleman came in needing three enlargements, came back with a $1,000+ order. One lady ordered over 100 8X10's and 5X7's from her daughter's wedding, she made two albums as Christmas gifts. One gentleman couldn't get his negatives together in time, so he talked me into selling him 80 BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) 8X10 enlargement certificates - in other words he prepaid 80 full price enlargements so that he could get the 80 free ones.

Sure we lost a little money from the person who intended to get two enlargements before they ever got to my store, but we more than made it up from others who wouldn't have enlarged anything at all. The funny thing is that a few people needed just one enlargement and turned down the second free one.
